Why rent on Bytewells
Your rent funds the Actor
90%* of every rental and pass goes to the developer who maintains the Actor, so they are paid to keep it working and improving. Bytewells keeps 10%.
Compute 25% cheaper
Runs cost $0.15 per compute unit, against $0.20 on Apify Starter and $0.13 on Business. Billed per second from prepaid credit, separately from the rental, with no platform plan required.
One-line migration
Change baseUrl in apify-client. Your inputs, datasets, schedules and downstream code keep working.
Same developer, same support
Actors are published by the developers who built them on Apify, from the same source code. The people you already go to for fixes and support maintain them here.
Alongside Apify, not instead of it
Apify is discontinuing rentals. Bytewells picks them up, so you can keep monthly pricing without moving the rest of your stack, and adds shorter passes for bursty work.

How renting works
- 01
Find your Actor
Each listing shows its price, README and input schema before you sign up. The Store opens with the private beta.
- 02
Rent it or pass it
Rent by the month with a free trial, or pay per use where the developer offers passes. Cancel anytime; there is no platform subscription on top.
- 03
Change one line
Point your integration at Bytewells. Your schedules, datasets and downstream code keep working.
What you pay
A rental or pass costs the same whether a run returns ten rows or ten million. Compute is the only usage-based line, billed separately from prepaid credit at $0.15 per compute unit (25% less than Apify Starter).
$20.00/mo rental plus compute at $0.15/CU vs Google Maps Scraper pay-per-event (FREE tier). Assumes 5 reviews per place for CU; median 0.00496 CU/place (127 runs, Sep 2026). At this volume, about $37.56 less than Store event charges.
Pay for the window you use
Developers can offer Flash (1 hour), Burst (24 hours) and Sprint (7 days) passes next to the monthly rental. Pay per use and your charges are capped automatically at the next tier's price, like a transit fare cap. The window starts at your first use, so you never pay for time before you needed the Actor.

EXAMPLE DAY · FARE CAP
Four Flash runs at $8 each reach the Burst price — access runs 24 hours from your first use, not from each charge.

Each developer sets pass and rental prices. Compute is billed separately from prepaid credit.
Built for AI agents
Agents and MCP clients are first-class renters. They call the same Apify-compatible API with a token and buy only the time they need. A Bytewells MCP server is on the roadmap.
Auto-buy on first run
Opt in once and your runs buy the pass they need. Pay per use: charges stop at the next tier's price, and the window starts at the first use.
Machine-readable offers
When an Actor offers passes, a run without access returns a 402 listing the tiers, their prices, a quote for the next use and the endpoints to buy. Agents can pay without a human in the loop.
Predictable spend
Within any window you never pay more than that tier's price. Passes come out of prepaid credit, so the balance is the ceiling.
Scoped by design
Run tokens handed to Actor code never buy passes, so a third-party Actor can't spend your credit on other Actors.
The Apify API you already use
Bytewells implements the parts of the Apify platform that production scrapers depend on.
Actors and runs
Start, abort and poll runs through the same /v2 endpoints apify-client calls.
Datasets
Push items from the Actor, page through them as JSON or CSV from your pipeline.
Key-value stores
INPUT, OUTPUT and other records land where the Apify SDK expects them.
Request queues
Crawlee request queues work unchanged.
Schedules
Cron schedules for daily or weekly scrapes, managed through the same API.
Webhooks
Get notified when a run succeeds or fails.
Questions
Do I have to leave Apify?+
No. Bytewells runs alongside Apify. Keep your Apify account for everything else and rent the Actors you run on a schedule here.
Where does my money go?+
90%* of every rental and pass charge goes to the Actor's developer; Bytewells keeps 10%. Compute is billed separately at $0.15 per compute unit from prepaid credit.
What if I only need an Actor for a few hours?+
Where the developer offers passes, pay for a Flash (1 hour), Burst (24 hours) or Sprint (7 days) window instead of a month. Pay per use and charges stop at the next tier's price, with the window starting at your first use, so you never pay more than a tier's price within its window.
Can my AI agent buy access on its own?+
Yes. Turn on auto-buy once and your agent's runs buy and cap passes as they go, paid from prepaid credit. A run without access gets a machine-readable offer with prices and the endpoints to buy. Agents and MCP clients use the same Apify-compatible API; a Bytewells MCP server is on the roadmap.
Is it the same Actor I use on Apify?+
Yes. Developers import their Actors from Apify with their own account, so the source code, README and input schema are the same, and the same people maintain it.
How hard is the switch?+
Change baseUrl in apify-client and use your Bytewells token. Actors built with the Apify SDK or Crawlee run unchanged.
Can I try an Actor before paying?+
Developers set a free trial of up to 30 days on each monthly rental; the default is 3 days. Passes have no trial, but a Flash pass lets you test for an hour. New accounts also get $5 of compute credit.
